David Witt of McCann & Cambrian
Enhances Web Design Technology for Bramalea Elevator Ltd. in Ontario
The release of Internet Explorer 7 by Microsoft was to bring about improvements
ranging from security issues to customization of user features and especially to
meet the compliancy standards of CSS.
Depending on the kind of technology employed in the creation of web sites, web
designers may well be scrambling to "re-check", "re-test" or re-write their
style sheets. Recently David Witt of McCann & Cambrian was asked by the
people at Bramalea Elevator to "go under the hood" of their web site to make the
site IE7 friendly and as well more search engine friendly. David also
heads up Engineering and Purchasing of Bramalea Elevator located in Southern
Ontario Canada. Visit the web site at

McCann & Cambrian helps Big
Brothers and Sisters of Parry Sound Area
In Parry Sound's Beacon Star newspaper, March 19th,
2005, it was reported that Big Brothers and Sisters of Parry Sound Area is once
again faced with financial hardship. The agency receives no funding from
any government level. It must raise its entire operating budget, year
after year. Compared to other agencies of this kind, Big Brothers and
Sisters of Parry Sound Area has a rather modest budget, getting by on $8,000 to
$10,000 dollars annually. The budget covers regular operating expenses
like telephone, office supplies, insurance, membership dues to its national
parent, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, group activities and case load
management. McCann & Cambrian E-Media Services would like to take an
active part in this agency's fund raising. As this year progresses, watch
for initiatives from us to help raise awareness and financial support. In
the meantime if you would like to make a financial donation please go to
http://www.bigbrothersandsisters.org/main.html. A donation can be made
with a major credit card or by cheque. Or, simply call McCann & Cambrian
for assistance in making a financial contribution. We thank you in
advance!

Warning to Owners of Domain
Names
Every Internet
domain name is represented by a record bearing critical information which
includes ownership and management details. The registrant's name, administrator and
technical names and contacts, nameservers, date of expiry, registrar and other
information depending on the top level domain (TLD) associated are posted to its
record. As the owner of a domain name you should be in complete control of
its record, but that isn't always the case resulting in difficulties and lost
time when attempting to update or modify the record.
What Goes Wrong
As a
domain name owner, you may have had the name registered on your behalf by an ISP
or web host company or web designer. This usually proves to be convenient and
time-saving for you, but as the rightful owner you should be conscience of the
critical information used to register your domain. You or your company's
name should be listed as the registrant, you or an official within your
organization should be listed as the administrator and the administrator's
e-mail contact should be your own or that of the official you have
appointed. You should always be provided with the account and password
to manage your domain name record. If the domain name is a Canadian name
(.ca) then you should also be in possession of the CIRA account and password for
your name. Without the correct information posted to the record and even more
importantly, without having the passwords to manage your domain name, many name
owners have discovered how helpless they feel when attempting to make critical
changes to their record and to prove ownership of the name. Third party
companies registering your name generally are professional and intend no harm,
but often as time goes by third parties move on, go out of business and are
unreachable. Unethical parties can drag their feet if it means renewing
your services with another firm. Domain name owners have literally found
themselves in a cyber black hole feeling desperate!
Please read more for information on
protecting your domain name and maintaining control

More Great Marketing News for Web Site
Owners
and Those Thinking of Having One
A marketing
report issued this summer indicates a "dramatic shift in media consumption
in a demographic prized by advertisers" Reuters newswire reported
this news on July 24th and went on to say that a survey found that young adults
are spending an average of 17 hours online each week, less than 14 hours
watching television and about 12 hours listening to radio. It would appear
that the Yellow Pages are also taking a back seat to the Internet.
Marketing guru Roy Williams says this week in a newsletter, the Internet has become the ultimate product
catalogue, information encyclopaedia, sales brochure and travel guide.
As more and more people rely on the Internet for research into the products and
services they buy it becomes apparent that it may be necessary to consider
converting some of that expensive Yellow Page advertising to web
marketing. A modest web site and annual hosting plan could prove to be a
fraction of the budget set aside for Yellow Pages.
McCann & Cambrian Builds Online Presence for Charles W. Stockey Centre &
Bobby Orr Hall of Fame in Parry Sound, Ontario
Parry Sound's extraordinary new centre for arts and entertainment is a long-time dream come true thanks to the dedication of many people in every walk of life and from both the public and private
sectors. Over 600,000 people visit the Parry Sound Area every year with a desire
to enjoy the great outdoors - the cottage, hiking, boating and other activities that are synonymous with the area.
Parry Sound is striving to become a significant destination within this nature-oriented
environment and in doing so must offer more than just a central location and a cluster of services. The community has made a visionary and original decision to create a major attraction - an attraction which joins together the three things for which Parry Sound is best known - its beautiful Bay frontage, its outstanding summer music festival and its hockey legend, Bobby Orr.
A 24,000 square foot building, constructed of the area's natural stone and indigenous woods, and overlooking Georgian Bay,
has become a reality. It is the new home for the Festival of the Sound. Under the same roof,
you will discover an exhibition space and entertainment centre celebrating Bobby Orr's career and that of other famous athletes from Northern Ontario.
The performance hall is acoustically world standard and seats 480.
McCann & Cambrian was selected to develop and host a web site that would
show off the beauty of this breathtaking new edifice on the shores of Georgian Bay
and which would serve to become a major marketing tool for the Centre. The
development is a huge project and construction of some sections is
ongoing. Overall completion is expected in October. Check it

Northern Diabetes Health Network has
New Look and Home on the
Web
Following
nearly five months of collaboration between the Northern Diabetes Health Network
(NDHN) of Ontario and McCann & Cambrian, a brand new web site was launched
March 19th on behalf of the Network. While we rendered much of the site's
design and infrastructure, staff at the NDHN played an instrumental role in
providing the concept, objectives, planning and copy. The web site is
hosted by McCann & Cambrian. The NDHN is an innovative health care delivery model that is committed to improving consumer access to comprehensive diabetes services. In communities throughout Northern Ontario
the Network's diabetes member programs provide education and care primarily to adults while programs located in selected communities across the province deliver specialized pediatric services.
For McCann & Cambrian, this project is a proud addition to our portfolio
which includes other health and dental care sites, culture, construction, auto,
marine, tourism, sports, recreation, social services and retail. Visit the

What Marketing Research is Telling Us About Your Web
Site
It was not long ago
when investors started pulling out of the Internet advertising field following
lackluster returns and a great sense of ill confidence in not knowing where
their money was going or how it was going to return. In early 2000 high-tech's
NASDAQ stock exchange soared to its all-time high of 5,048. One year later
it had slid 64%! Reasons for the crash included greed, excess and a flurry of poor decisions
which played a big part in the creation of the stock bubble. Yet today,
marketing research tells us that 79% of today's Internet users expect a business
to have a web site. This group of Internet users comprised of consumer and
business communities, expects to find serious information on the products and
services for sale. Internet usage continues to increase with the growing number
of households subscribing to Internet access. Consumer and corporate
users are also demanding faster and improved services with the advent of high
speed access making its way into every pocket of our continent.
So
this tells us that yes, business should have a web site, but that perhaps
initial expectations need to be modified. Any good business plan includes
a marketing strategy. Every good marketing strategy will have an overall
plan to create product awareness, branding and identify a desire or need for the
product. Your competitive edge is getting to the ball field first, or at
least on time! The fans (aka consumers) are already sitting in the
bleachers (aka on the Internet). For more information we recommend you
check out The Monday Morning Memo
(Jan 13/03), written by Roy Williams, well known and respected for his approach to advertising, imaging and marketing.
Mr. Williams has some great tips to consider when developing or revamping your
web site!
E-Commerce Solutions
Expanding at McCann & Cambrian
The
use of the Internet continues to grow and diversify. Originally,
sharing information was enough, but the business community is embracing
today's emerging technology which is redefining the world wide web.
The Internet is becoming as much of a tool in the hands of today's business
and industrial communities enhancing the way in which products and services
are marketed and sold. Keeping up with today's web is paramount in
maintaining a competitive edge. McCann & Cambrian is responding
by offering new E-Commerce Solutions. Since first introducing E-Commerce
on October 21, 2002, we have been endeavouring to meet higher demands by
offering more comprehensive solutions. Everything from a shopping
cart to complete store front is now available. E-Commerce components
can be integrated into existing web sites, bundled into a variety of hosting
plans, or sold separately. To learn more about these solutions, see
E-Commerce.
For
a basic shopping cart application, see
Shopping
Cart. For more information and rates, call us today, 1-888-802-9498!
When a Deal is
Not Synonymous with Value!
Value
comparison when shopping for Internet services can be a little challenging
particularly when factoring in setup or one time charges. Lower monthly
rates may not result in the best value when setup fees are included in
the equation. A plan offering 100 MB's of disk storage with a limit
of 5 POP e-mail accounts may be less practical and valuable than a plan
providing 50 MB's of disk storage with 20 POP e-mail accounts at the customer's
disposal. Free domain name registration may be perceived as added
value, but there is no value where inflated monthly charges may be levied.
Fees
Waived
Some
companies specializing in web hosting and related services demonstrate
a strong, committed desire in establishing a healthy client base by waiving
set up fees. They base this practice on the fundamental belief that
a long-term customer is more valuable than a charge to "get through the
door". McCann & Cambrian includes itself in this category.
With the exception of E-Commerce and special applications including DataBase,
our set up fees are generally waived. We go further by offering free
set up and pointing of additional domain names and URL's. As a Registration
Service Provider, we discount domain name registration fees for our hosting
services subscribers. For more information, call 1-888-802-9498!
MasterCard and
American Express Acceptance added to Payment Options at McCann & Cambrian
Methods
of payment for any of our services and products have included cheque, money
order, cash and VISA. Effective Tuesday, October 15th, 2002 we are
pleased to announce the acceptance of MasterCard and American Express.
The decision to include these additional forms of payment was prompted
by the desire to add more convenience and flexibility, benefiting our existing
and future customers. With the advent of our domain name registration
and renewal services and nation-wide marketing, we realized that McCann
& Cambrian would establish itself on a higher competitive field vying
for private and corporate business clientele and the need to offer these
expanded services was paramount in meeting the needs of a wider and more
complex target demographic.
New Name Launched
On
September 17th, 2002 we launched a new company name which identifies and
encompasses our branding, products and services. Up until then web
hosting and web design were marketed under separate banners, McCann Concept
Developments and Cambrian Web Hosting Services. As we continue to
expand our services and client base nation-wide, we feel this move will
serve to be most conducive in presenting a focused corporate image and
productive means of rendering a wider array of services. The company
remains under the ownership and operation of David Witt and Doug McCann.
McCann & Cambrian
can Introduce your Business to the World
McCann
& Cambrian recognizes that its own industry is intensely service oriented.
Surveys have shown that the most successful companies have regarded technical
know-how as their main objective in searching for a web host provider.
Followed by that are reliability and service. Pricing is a consideration
for such companies, but never a compromise. The parent owners, David
Witt and Doug McCann have a direct, daily, hands-on responsibility in managing
this company, providing a great deal of expertise in programming, engineering,
web site development, marketing and media.
Is the Internet
Right for your Business?
The
Internet and the technology that drives the world wide web is constantly
growing. Is the Internet right for your business? It may well
be and in ways you never imagined. However the nature of your business
will to a major degree dictate how effective a web site can be for your
business. You must also consider what your objectives and expectations
would be. For some business operators, a presence on the Internet
may serve well enough to provide some advertising and exposure. For
other operators, plans for a large site complete with on-line sales transactions
may be in the plans. To help you decide, take some time to research
what your competitors may be doing on the web. Consult with any professional
associations you may be a member of checking for news and advice.
McCann & Cambrian has also designed a quiz or test that may help you
decide, by addressing some very important fundamentals and perhaps suggesting
ideas you may not have considered in the way in which a web site could
help your business grow. To review or take the test, visit
Internet
for My Business.
