Blog to Build Your Brand
By now you've likely heard of the term and what's more, read several of them on various types of web sites.  We're talking about blogs.  Blog is short for Web Log and having a blog on your own web site is one more way in which you can work at achieving expert status in your field and develop more relevant content.  Last week's Click Tip talked about publishing articles and we're going to come back to that.  Articles provide you with many avenues in which you can talk about your product or service, provide information, and garner attention to your own web site.  Blogs can do the same thing and like articles can appear on your own site or appear on other sites, but regardless of their location, can generate much attention and traffic back to you.

A blog can simply be described as an online diary.  Whether it's personally or commercially based, a blog tends to be written from a personal perspective.  It also tends to form a chronological log of thoughts, ideas and news about your business and is generally updated on a daily or weekly basis, or on some regular interval of time.

A blog is ideal and practical.  Setting up a blog can be easy and fast.  Although there are some reputable free services on the web, as a business operator you may want something more customized and branded for your own site.  Ideally, you should already have a web site up and running and arrange with your web host provider to install the necessary scripts.  Having your own scripts or application installed for your web site does not have to be expensive.  The installation can be fast but it may take an hour or so to customize the blog's appearance to match your overall brand or image.

Your blog provides an easy means to publish news about your product, service and/or company.  This is especially handy as the web site owner who depends on a webmaster for site updates can update their own blog.  A blog is a great tool to use to inform people about offers, new products and services and make a personal connection to customers.  Readers of blogs tend to be loyal and will frequently visit your own blog if you keep it updated with compelling content.

And once again, you will have found another way to build in comfort factors in your web site, building customer confidence and trust and presenting yourself more and more as a trusted as a reliable expert in your field.  The content also will do well for search engine rankings for direct and indirect criteria.

Of course this builds your credibility, branding, on line presence and all of that leads to sales.

Next week, where and how to get started with a blog.
