Always have something to say.
The man who has something to say
and who is known never to speak
unless he has, is sure to be
listened to.

This Week's Glossary Pick
Inbound Link
A hyperlink to a particular web page or
site from an outside site, resulting in
bringing traffic to that respective web
site. Inbound links found on reputable
sites count as votes for the web sites they
send traffic as they are regarded by some
major search engines in judging the
popularity of a given web site. |

The
Elusive Butterfly
When the Internet began to make a real
splash in what seems like just a few short
years ago, people building web sites then
were discovering all the neat
backgrounds, borders, clipart, animated
clipart, fancy fonts and so on to
incorporate into their sites. There
was this great temptation to go for the
butterfly look. The novelty of it all
seemed fitting, but in time, waiting for
graphics to download, the squinting of eyes
as a result of fancy letters against
non-contrasting backgrounds, and the endless
scrolling from top to bottom of pages, all
became arduous to the site's visitor's
experience. Very often, there was more
fluff and clutter than substance.
Consider the following objectives when
planning the design of your site!
Keep the overall design neat. Use a
font like Arial for the bulk of your
contextual content. Make use of flash,
graphics, dark borders and such to accent
your site rather than consume it.
Navigation of your site should be easy to
follow. Use text links which enable
search engine spiders to easily crawl your
site.
Organize the content in a fashion that
allows your visitors to easily find and
interact with your site. Make sure
your site is rich in content. If you
are promoting lodging for a fishing camp,
why not add a page with fishing tips!
Search engines love content and can offer
your site as a suggestion for multiple
related search terms.
Keep your site fresh and up to date.
The butterfly is pretty, but elusive.
Substance is solid and tangible. |
